Carpet Upholstery Cleaning- How to Do it Right

January 25th, 2010 No comments

Carpet upholstery cleaning is something that everyone with carpet and/or furniture will have to face at some point or other. Fortunately, there are a large number of companies that produce cleaning products for both carpet and upholstery, so you can easily attempt to do the job at home if you like. Many people do prefer to try to do the cleaning themselves, as it seems less expensive than hiring a professional to do it. However, when you take into consideration the amount of time it may take to do these things on your own, you may want to re-consider and have a professional come in and do it for you.

Then, there is also the matter of having the right materials for the job. For example, you wouldn’t want to use an upholstery cleaner meant for cotton or velvet on leather, because that could totally ruin the material. Be absolutely certain that you read all of the necessary instructions on the bottle of cleaning solution before you try to use it, so you can be certain that you are using it on the right material. Then, expect to do a fair bit of scrubbing before the carpet or upholstery actually gets clean. You’ll need to have the energy to really get in there and scrub hard for long periods of time, because that is what it will take to get your carpet or upholstery clean to the levels you want it.

This is because both carpet and upholstery have fibers, and these fibers can be rather deep. This gives dirt and other undesirable particles such as food and insect parts the opportunity to work their way down deep into the fibers and cause the material to smell funny and to cause allergic reactions in the sensitive people of your household. That is why regular cleaning is necessary, to get rid of these deep down embedded dirt particles. However, be sure to be careful when scrubbing, because even though you have to scrub hard, if you scrub too hard, you could end up damaging the material.

The best way to accomplish carpet upholstery cleaning is to hire a professional to do it. This, of course, will be less effort on your part, and will not cost nearly as much as you think, especially when you take the time factor into consideration. Plus, professional cleaners have the skills and materials necessary to clean those carpet and upholstery fibers deeply, so as to get them as clean as when they were new, if not cleaner, and most can do it in a non-toxic manner, such as by using steam alone. Steam is a remarkable cleaner, and you will find that any company that uses it typically produces superior results.
